5 Habits To Help You Keep Your Kitchen Clean...

Have you ever looked at your house and thought, "how on earth did it get this bad?"
That same thought went through my mind every single day until recently, it felt like no matter what I did, I just couldn't get my house under control. To be honest it's still not perfect, I still have rooms that need to be organized. Our bedroom is a constant battle, the guest room has become a storage space, and please do not open our garage door. Even my beautiful nursery, that I spent hours organizing before our little girl got here, is a mess. But, I have implemented some healthy habits, that have helped me to lessen the amount of chaos. Here are ===== simple habits you can start to help out with your "chaos".

Go through your mail immediately

I cannot explain how much this has helped with our dining room table being less cluttered. Right when you walk in our front door your greeted by our dining room, and our table seems to be one of our catch all spaces. After walking in the house we would just throw the mail on the table and pretend like we were going to deal with it another time. Before we knew it we had bills from six months earlier, and ads junk mail that was even older. Now I try to make sure that I open everything right when I get inside, save what needs to be dealt with, and throw away anything that we don't actually need. Then once a month, I go through all of our saved mail and decide if I need to file it with our important documents, or if I need to throw it away. This day of the month is when I remember that we really need to invest in a paper shredder, because I spend way too much time tearing up the mail.

Do at least one load of laundry a day

On a normal day I typically will wash 1-2 loads of laundry. But you do have to factor in the newborn, the leaky boobs (TMI I know), and the husband that has work clothes, PT clothes, and comfy clothes, that he wears pretty much everyday. That doesn't even count the four different outfits he will wear on the weekend because he is always getting dirty outside. But if I go a day or two without getting to laundry, I have four or five loads to do in one day. Which is the case tomorrow, since I decided not to do laundry the last two days....

Wash all dishes before bed

I hate going to sleep with a dirty kitchen. and the biggest culprit of all is the dishes. Throughout the whole day I rise all of the food off of our dishes that we use, and load them into the dishwasher. This makes it so that all I have to do right before bed is start the dishwasher. The next morning the first thing I do is unload the dishwasher so I can load my breakfast dishes into it. This habit has really helped with the kitchen staying clean. Up until recently we actually didn't have a working dishwasher, which made keeping the kitchen clean a little more difficult, since I always had dishes on the drying rack. and the actual washing process took me longer.

Doing a quick kitchen wipe down

Since I load the dishes into the dishwasher throughout the day, my sink stays pretty clean. So all  have to do is quickly wipe it out. Now the counters are a different story. Since I typically have Skye in one arm, I don't always get to wipe the counter right away, because it's a little more difficult with her. At the end of the night I try to make sure all of the counters get a thorough wipe down, which honestly only takes like 5 minutes.

Keeping minimal items on the counter

I'm still working on this one, slowly but surely I am getting my kitchen organized the way I want it. Keeping less things on your counters will make it 10000x easier to wipe your counters down. Instead of having to worry about moving things around to wipe underneath everything, you'll be able to quickly wipe all your counters down, with only moving a couple things. This honestly will make your kitchen look cleaner, and easier to clean.
