Beauty Uses For Coconut Oil...
You've all heard about the magic of coconut oil. It can fix almost anything right?
I bought a ton of coconut oil a while back, and not too long after I regretted it. Not because it wasn't worth it, because it totally was, but because I had no idea of all of the different uses of it other than cooking. Coconut oil goes far beyond the kitchen.
Here's a list of my absolute favorite beauty uses for coconut oil:
Moisturizer: This is probably one of the most obvious uses, but if you have oily skin, I probably wouldn't recommend this one. I have super dry skin, so this works great for me. I only apply it at night, just because it will leave you looking a little shiny, and it definitely has helped a ton.
Makeup Remover: Believe it or not this works super well to take off even waterproof makeup. How I use this is by taking a little bit of oil on my fingertips, and applying it to my eye area and rubbing it all over breaking everything up. After I look like raccoon (if you try this process you will understand), I take a clean cotton round and wipe away all of the oil and makeup residue. Works like a charm every time!
Dandruff Control: I do this every once in a while, when my scalp is especially dry and flaky, and it really helps a ton! All of need is about a 1/2 cup of coconut oil, heated indirectly, and about 6-7 drops of Tea Tree Oil. Apply this to your scalp and let sit for 5-7 minutes and then wash my hair as normal! This really helps to not only lift any dry skin from your scalp, but also to help prevent it from happening again.
Frizz Tamer: For my readers with curly hair this could easily be a life saver. Now I don't have curly hair by any means, at most I have wavy hair, but this could literally help anyone. If you've ever had to deal with frizzy hair, you know how inconvenient it is. All you need is to grab a little bit of that oil into your fingers and lightly run them through your locks to tame them. Make sure to do this with as little as possible, too much will make your hair oily.
Body Scrub: I use coconut oil to make my absolute favorite body scrub. A major plus of this is that it's super easy to make. Taking equal parts of coconut oil and brown sugar, you mix it together and you're done! You can add an essential oil of your choice, personally I like lemon or orange, but typically I just leave it as is. It smells good on its own too. You can use regular granulated sugar, but brown sugar is what I prefer to use. I love to use this after I shave my legs, partially to make my legs extra smooth, and also because it can help prevent ingrown hairs. This also works great as a lip scrub!!
Teeth Whitener: Mixing coconut oil with some baking soda makes an awesome teeth whitener, it is an odd consistency, but it does a great job!
Hair Growth: With all of the postpartum hair loss I've been having, you'd better bet that I want to try everything to get my hair back to what it was. Mixing some coconut oil and aloe together I like to massage this into my scalp let it sit for 5-10 min. and then wash my hair as normal!
I've done this three or four times now, and I've definitely noticed a little bit of a difference. Now this could be due to me cutting a few inches off of my hair, but I'm going to continue using this for a while longer and see if it continues to improve!
