2018 New Year's Resolutions

Every year I make a resolution, and every year I break those resolutions after a few short months. This year, I've decided to give myself some more realistic goals. This year, I will be able to stick to them. I have a lot of things I want to work on in 2018, but I have five main things I really need to accomplish. Keep in mind these are things I will have to continually work on my entire life, but I want to make the change this year. The major thought to keep in mind about New Year's resolutions, is that come January 1st, you don't have to be perfect at your resolution. You just need to start the change, and come the next year be able to say it made an impact in your life. These are my 2018 New Year's Resolutions!

1.) Hike More.
This one is super important to me, which might seem odd, but let explain.
Andrew has always loved to be outside, whether that be camping, hiking, fishing, or even just hanging out with friends and family on the back deck. When I became pregnant with Skye, I stopped having the motivation to do all of those things, and I would convince him to stay home and watch movies with me (all of which I ended up sleeping through). Even since having Skye, I've mostly wanted to just stay inside, or go to target and wander around. But the weirdest part, is that I actually love to hike. We were able to go on a hike (that was cut super short, due to me being severely out of shape) a couple weeks ago, and I enjoyed it so much! Skye loved it too! She got to look around at all of the trees, and the changing light. It was a great experience for her, but for some reason the thought of preparing for a hike, and actually getting out to do it, seems like an impossible task.

2.) Eat Cleaner.
Now I'm not saying a huge lifestyle change, because we actually don't eat horribly, but we definitely need to clean up some areas. We eat a lot of cereal, mostly because we both work full time, and are exhausted by the end of the day. But there is obviously a simple solution, meal prep. We've decided that the next time we grocery shop, we are going to have planned out meals, that we will prepare every sunday. Now Saturday and Sunday we will have to prepare food, but Monday through Friday we will have prepared meals, so there won't be any excuses for us not eating well. We're also cutting our eating out down to a minimum, we don't really eat out a ton now, but occasionally we will grab something quick before grocery shopping, or if we are out and about. My main motivator for eating healthier, is that I want to get my body healthy, before becoming pregnant again. I had a pretty healthy pregnancy with Skye, but I want to be even better this next go around. I want to be as healthy as possible for my family, because I never want to miss out on anything with them.

3.) Be More Positive.
I've never really been a super positive person, I have a mix or anxiety and low self esteem to thank for that. But this year I want to take control, I'm tired of always thinking the worst. I want to have a more positive outlook on everything, and let go of the anger, frustration, and anxiousness that I am always dealing with. I'm hoping if I can get to this point in my life, that I will be less stressed, and feel happier on a regular basis. I don't want my daughter to grow up thinking I was always in a bad mood, and I don't want my husband to always see me as stressed out.

4.) Listen More.
I talk. A lot. Andrew will probably tell you, his biggest pet peeve about me, is that I never shut up. Well, second to the fact that I really suck at listening. I'm terribly ashamed of it. But that is one of the biggest things I need to work on personally. I get so wrapped up in everything going on in my head, that I forget, and often ignore, that the people around me have things going on too. I'm really bad about interrupting people when I get excited, or remember something in the moment. I want to listen to the people around me, and make them feel important and show them that their presence is appreciated.

5.) Get Organized.
My house is probably one of the most unorganized places you will ever visit, upon first glance it looks pretty decent, but please don't open any drawers, cabinets, or closets. This is probably because I am probably one of the most unorganized people you will ever meet. Let's just be honest, I'm a hot mess 99.9% of the time. I try my hardest, but I un-organize six other places in my house, when trying to organize one specific place. It is a never ending battle, so this year I am going to declutter, donate a TON of stuff I don't need, and finally organize all of my crap.

Good Luck with all of your resolutions! Comment your resolutions down below! I'd love to see what everyone is working on in the new year!
